My initial idea was to base these upon autotools generated ones.

Hm, at second thought, I guess I'm going all the way and autoconfiscate
the whole thing. How about that? I've done this a few times before, it
allows for easy autogeneration of version numbers and tarballs (
building cabot-20030723.tar.gz by running "make dist"). An example is
at http://mdcc.cx/pub/ad1810-firewall/ad1810-firewall-latest/ : what's
maintained in CVS is
http://mdcc.cx/pub/ad1810-firewall/ad1810-firewall-latest/Makefile.am ,
http://mdcc.cx/pub/ad1810-firewall/ad1810-firewall-latest/bootstrap ,
http://mdcc.cx/pub/ad1810-firewall/ad1810-firewall-latest/configure.ac
and http://mdcc.cx/pub/ad1810-firewall/ad1810-firewall-latest/setversion
=2E

I know some people start screaming in agony when hearing about
autotools, so I'd guess I'd better first ask :)

Bye,

Joost
