Echolot 2.0.8 released
======================

Echolot 2.0.8 was released today.

It fixes several minor annoyances and one larger bug which you might
have encountered already: In certain cases if Echolot tries to use a
key no longer valid it simply died. The problem was that GnuPG already
had exited when Echolot printed to the file descriptor and so got a
SIGPIPE which was not caught. This was fixed by using temporary files
with DSA keys as well (we already use temp files for RSA keys for pgp2
compatibility).

For a full list of changes see the NEWS file in CVS or in the released
tarball.

About Echolot
=============

Echolot <http://www.palfrader.org/echolot/> is a pinger for anonymous
remailers.

A Pinger in the context of anonymous remailers is a program that
regularly sends messages through remailers to determine their status.
Based on the responses, the Pinger calculates reliability statistics
which may be used by remailer clients to choose a chain of remailers to
use.

Furthermore, Echolot collects configuration parameters and keys of
remailers and offers the collected information in a format readable by
remailer clients. This helps reduce the administration effort required
to use or host remailers.
